One of the things we all do naturally is widen issues.
You’re doing it when you say things like:
- I got this wrong vs I never get anything right
- This happened to me vs this always happens to me
- The business isn’t taking off just yet vs the business’ll never take off
- I dropped this glass vs I’m so clumsy
- This is not going so well vs everything’s going wrong
The trouble with those vague sentiments is they’re rarely true.
And they’re never useful.
If you focus on the single issue making you say (or think) like that, you can do something about it.
Broad brushstrokes are for painting lavatory walls.
The fine art’s where the magic happens, and where fortunes are made.
