December 13th 2002.
Aged 46, I signed a 102-page document, in five places. Decades of hard work finally paid off, and I sold my financial services business in a deal worth £11.2m.
That’s what the press reported, and that’s what the contract said. Eleven point two million pounds. Pretty much $15m, if we’d been paid in dollars, which we weren’t.
As it turned out, we weren’t paid in much of anything at all, as the incompetent buyers went bust after they paid us a tiny fraction of the deal bounty.
Mired with loans, credit cards and mortgages, I slid into dire straits. Broke, stressed and hounded relentlessly by dozens of creditors, I took the nuclear option.
March 3rd 2007.
Aged 50, I signed an 8-page document, twice. Years of worry and anguish behind me, I filed for bankruptcy.
Awful day? Kinda, in terms of the blow to my ego.
Great day? Hell yeah, as peace broke out in my life. No more daily threatening letters, hourly phone calls and sleepless nights.
Just a clean slate, a fresh start and exponential possibilities.
Fast forward another decade, I launched JHM for you, and all those inspirational coaches and therapists like you.
Over $1m in sales later, I’m happier than I’ve ever been, with a beautiful little family and my life in perfect balance.
Why am I telling you this?
Firstly, so you can see I’ve faced challenges like everyone else. Nobody’s life is a linear climb to paradise without the occasional round-trip to hell.
Secondly, the more important message.
Whatever happens, you’ll be ok. However devastating your losses along the way, you always get to keep what’s between your ears.
Cherish your beautiful mind, nourish it, exercise it and your glorious future is assured.
