Lessons From Cars

Cars

I’m a huge admirer of all things Pixar – their skill and passion in creating spellbinding CGI movies is truly amazing.

Watching Cars 3 with my little lad today, I was struck by a line in the screenplay that could have been spoken by many iconic achievers.

The Owen Wilson character, Lightning McQueen is now an aging pro-racer, mentoring a young upstart, voiced by Cristela Alonzo.

She asks McQueen:

“What was it like when you turned up to your first race. How did you know you could do it?”

He answers naturally:

“I dunno, I just never thought I couldn’t”

And there, in one sentence, is a template for success in pretty much any field of human endeavour.

Here’s the path from your mind to the outside world:

  • Thoughts create feelings.
  • Feelings create actions.
  • Actions create results.

As Henry Ford said, whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.

If you don’t think of failure as an option, it isn’t.
