As I sweated, groaned and complained this morning at my personal trainer about the way he was pushing me, he hit me with a smart one-liner. He’s quite the philosopher, young Brenton.
He said, Jonny, the way you do anything is the way you do everything.
In other words,
- If you give up here before you’re done, you’ll give up everywhere before you’re done
- If mediocre is your standard here, it’s probably your standard whatever you’re doing
- If you don’t care about your fitness, you don’t care about much else either
The ability to push yourself – or find someone else who can push you – in all areas of your life is a critical piece in the success jigsaw.
The next time I’m stuck for words to finish a post, video or email, I’ll think of that last agonising press-up, and push on through the pain.
